BUTLER MEMORIAL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH is a beloved community of hope and faith that proclaims the good news of Jesus Christ. We provide fellowship for all God's people and equip men and women for ministry within the church and the wider community. On behalf of our community and pastors, all are welcome.
A Short History
BUTLER CHURCH was founded in 1912 through the efforts of a small group of civic-minded people with a missionary zeal to establish a Methodist church in the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx. The group consisted of Joseph Hill, George Eccles, Delancy Boyd, Archie Ross, Claybourne Johnson, Charles Williams, James Nelson, and Joseph Hill, Jr.
The name "Butler" was given in memory of the late Rev. William P. Butler – the first minister of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Manhattan.
